Since 2011, the Federal Ministry of Construction and the Federal Chamber of Architects have awarded the German Architecture Prize. The procedure is carried out by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning.

The German Architecture Prize is awarded to buildings that are exemplary for the development of contemporary building. They must be of special architectural quality or bear witness to exemplary treatment in the renovation and modernisation of historical buildings, to sustainable building in ecological, economic and social terms, and contribute positively to the design of the public space.

In the context of this year’s German Architecture Award, the jury awarded recognition for the design of the public space to the footpath and cycle path bridge over the Rheinstraße in Darmstadt.

We are pleased about the public recognition and are proud to have played a major role in the realisation of the “Red Bridge”.

105 years of experience and loyalty

“Long-serving employees, their experience and skills, are the backbone of any company”, with these words Peter Brechtelsbauer, Managing Director of Donges SteelTec GmbH, introduced the honouring of the company’s anniversaries.

Thomas Kloose and Werner Spielberger started their professional lives at Donges on 1 September 1980. In the 40 years of their membership of the company, they have witnessed many changes, acquired experience and know-how and always felt committed to the company.Thomas Kloose trained as a technical draughtsman at Donges, was employed on a permanent basis after completing his training and today passes on his knowledge and passion for steel construction to young entrants as training manager in the technical office. Werner Spielberger began as a steel construction fitter and is today, as a safety specialist, responsible for the safety of his colleagues both within the company and on the construction sites.

Sabine Kadic has been working as a design engineer at Donges for a quarter of a century and looks back proudly on many renowned steel construction projects, such as the Lehrter Bahnhof in Berlin, the Airbus hangar Finkenwerder or the hot-dip galvanizing hall 3 in Salzgitter, on which she worked.

A heartfelt thank you to all those celebrating an anniversary for their loyalty and commitment to our company and all the best for the future!

We build with steel and would like to pass on our passion for this material.

Darmstadt, 01.09.2020. Donges SteelTec GmbH welcomed six trainees at the start of the new training year. Two technical system planners and four construction mechanics are starting their professional careers in our steel construction company in Darmstadt.

For years, training at Donges SteelTec has been in great demand. “We are delighted that we are again able to accompany so many young people at the start of their careers and thus build up our own junior staff”, said Joachim Abt, industrial training manager at Donges SteelTec GmbH.

During the three-and-a-half-year training period, the construction mechanics are familiarized in the company’s own training workshop with the usual processes of steel construction production and steel processing such as turning, drilling and milling and welding. In the company’s technical office, the technical system planners learn how to work with modern 3D/2D CAD programs, how to create overview and workshop drawings and how to create parts lists and NC data for the production machines. During the workshop phase, the design engineers to be trained acquire knowledge of steel processing. Company training projects and an extensive training program round off the apprenticeship.

“We have been building steel bridges and innovative steel structures for over 140 years. Each construction is individual and a small masterpiece. Getting young people excited about it is both a claim and a challenge for us” says Thomas Kloose, head of training in the technical office at Donges SteelTec.

Sponsors Cup of the Lilien in Darmstadt

This year the Sponsors Cup of SV Darmstadt 98 took place for the 12th time. Altogether 10 teams played for the popular challenge cup.

The Donges SteelTec team took part in the competition for the first time and was highly motivated. The Donges footballers were cheered on by their colleagues. In the end, they were delighted with their 7th place and one thing was clear for everyone: being there and being together in sport is the most important thing.

Donges SteelTec celebrated a special summer party in the company’s history on August 30th in glorious sunshine.

The members of the works council had invited all employees and their families as well as retired former colleagues to a summer party in the company courtyard. With suckling pig, Argentinian steaks and cool drinks, all guests had ample opportunity to exchange memories of joint projects and to inform themselves about current production orders during a workshop tour. For the children, a large bouncy castle and a painting table were specially organised as a pastime.

The two managing directors, Johannes Laumann and Peter Brechtelsbauer, together with the chairman of the works council, Ercan Kaya, welcomed the two guests of honour: the former owner of the company, Rainer Müller-Donges, and the long-standing managing director, Dr. Volker Adam. They also took the opportunity to present the newly formed Donges Group. Representatives of the partner companies Kalzip and FDT had travelled from Koblenz and Mannheim to the celebration and could inform themselves locally about the new parent company.

It was a carefree and very talk intensive afternoon. And certainly, the family celebration also brought the Donges company family a little closer together.

Donges SteelTec is investing in two new gantry cranes at its Darmstadt site.

Dr. Peter Schäfer, Production Manager of Donges SteelTec GmbH, calls the acquisition of the two new double-girder gantry cranes, which were commissioned on schedule on June 26, “An important investment in the future of our bridge and building construction production”.

The lifting capacity in the former lightweight hall will be increased by the two cranes from 2 * 10 to 4 x 20 tons, so that components with unit weights of up to 80 tons can be produced. The company thus has expanded production capacities for heavy bridge and steel building constructions at its disposal.

The cranes have already successfully passed the first test in the production of the “Stokkumer Straße Emmerich” bridge. The next application will be for the components for the bridge structure “A1 left bank of the Rhine”.

Donges SteelTec participates in Girls’ and Boys’ Day

On March 28, eight students spent a day at Donges SteelTec as part of the nationwide Girls’ and Boys’ Day and gained their first insights into working life.

The young people were first allowed to construct their initials on the computer in our technical office and then later spray the letters burnt out of steel sheets with color according to their own taste. They also got to know the various departments in administration, assembly and our bridge and building construction divisions. For the young people, the day ended with a stay in our production department, where they were able to experience first-hand the production and processing of large steel structures for bridge and building construction projects.

“For many years, we have enjoyed using this day to give interested young people an understanding of the many career opportunities offered by our steel construction company,” commented Joachim Abt, Training Manager at Donges SteelTec.
