Donges SteelTec takes over Kalzip

Donges SteelTec

Press release

Darmstadt, July 26, 2018 – Donges SteelTec, one of the leading suppliers of steel structures in Germany, in acquiring Kalzip, has taken over the roof and facade systems business of Tata Steel. Donges, headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, has thus far been active in German-speaking countries. The transaction will increase the Group’s sales to over EUR 100 million.

Kalzip is a global supplier of aluminum building envelopes, producing roof and facade systems on modern roll-forming lines. The company offers high-quality aluminum solutions, especially for stadiums, sports arenas, traffic structures, industrial buildings, commercial buildings and residential areas. Kalzip maintains a worldwide distribution network and, in addition to its headquarters in Koblenz, has key subsidiaries in England, Dubai and India. In 2017, the company generated worldwide sales of roughly €62 million with some 230 employees.

In the newly created Donges Group, the combination of steel and facade construction enables the complementary knowledge transfer of both branches of technology and positioning as a full-service solution provider. The supplementing of the product portfolio and improved market access directly to principals and architects is intended to boost competitiveness.

Donges has been part of the Mutares Group since November 2017 and, within the scope of the current turnaround plan, is now focusing on the structural realignment of key business divisions. The acquisition of Kalzip marks the first add-on acquisition for Donges and thus the first milestone in the company’s further strategic realignment.
Johannes Laumann, Managing Director of Donges SteelTec: “We are very pleased about the Kalzip acquisition. Based on the complementary product portfolio, Donges and Kalzip are superb strategic fit. In particular, the harnessing of joint sales activities offers potential for significant sales growth. In addition, we can offer our customers significant added value as a provider of integrated solutions in steel and facade construction for roofs and walls from a single source.”
