Ganslandsiepen viaduct

Semi-integral composite viaduct

Project
New construction of a semi-integral viaduct as part of the A44 Ratingen-Velbert motorway near Flandersbach.

Owner

The semi-integral viaduct with steel struts mounted on the concrete piers was brought into its final position by longitudinal insertion and then welded to the pier struts, which act as fixed points of the bridge upon completion. In addition to the pier struts, a total of 24 superstructure sections with lengths of up to 36 m and weights of up to 100 tons had to be fabricated, delivered and assembled.

Ganslandsiepen Viaduct – manufacturing and assembly of a semi-integral viaduct

The new construction of the A44 motorway between the Ratingen-Ost interchange and the existing end of the A44 expansion in Velbert creates a continuous east-west link between the Rhine river and the central Ruhr area. A three-span bridge structure with individual span widths of 64 m – 80 m – 64 m and a total span of 208 m is being erected near Heiligenhaus as the Ganslandsiepen viaduct, creating an overpass above several rural roads and the Gansbach stream. The ravine is being bridged at a height of up to 35 m.
