Donges SteelTec celebrated a special summer party in the company’s history on August 30th in glorious sunshine.
The members of the works council had invited all employees and their families as well as retired former colleagues to a summer party in the company courtyard. With suckling pig, Argentinian steaks and cool drinks, all guests had ample opportunity to exchange memories of joint projects and to inform themselves about current production orders during a workshop tour. For the children, a large bouncy castle and a painting table were specially organised as a pastime.
The two managing directors, Johannes Laumann and Peter Brechtelsbauer, together with the chairman of the works council, Ercan Kaya, welcomed the two guests of honour: the former owner of the company, Rainer Müller-Donges, and the long-standing managing director, Dr. Volker Adam. They also took the opportunity to present the newly formed Donges Group. Representatives of the partner companies Kalzip and FDT had travelled from Koblenz and Mannheim to the celebration and could inform themselves locally about the new parent company.
It was a carefree and very talk intensive afternoon. And certainly, the family celebration also brought the Donges company family a little closer together.
Darmstadt/Haiger, 22.07.2019.
3000 tons of steel construction roll on 384 wheels on the motorway A45 near Haiger.
The two new truss bridges of the B54 near Haiger, each weighing around 3000 tonnes, were successfully driven over the existing A45 motorway during a 50-hour closure on the weekend of Friday, 19 July to Sunday, 21 July and lowered in their final position.
The 96 m and 120 m long steel structures with a weight of 800 tons and 1200 tons, which were manufactured as large components at the Donges SteelTec GmbH plant in Darmstadt, were completely pre-assembled next to the motorway for months, welded and subsequently fitted with a concrete roadway slab.
The superstructures were then stacked up to 9.00 meters and brought to their respective end positions by self-propelled platform module transporters (SPMT).
The manufacturing process and the running-in process are regarded as a unique project in Germany, especially due to the almost complete completion in lateral position.
Dr. Peter Schäfer, Production Manager of Donges SteelTec GmbH, calls the acquisition of the two new double-girder gantry cranes, which were commissioned on schedule on June 26, “An important investment in the future of our bridge and building construction production”.
The lifting capacity in the former lightweight hall will be increased by the two cranes from 2 * 10 to 4 x 20 tons, so that components with unit weights of up to 80 tons can be produced. The company thus has expanded production capacities for heavy bridge and steel building constructions at its disposal.
The cranes have already successfully passed the first test in the production of the “Stokkumer Straße Emmerich” bridge. The next application will be for the components for the bridge structure “A1 left bank of the Rhine”.
Darmstadt/Linz 24.06.2019.
On Friday, 21.06.2019 the middle section of the bypass bridges in Linz was successfully erected. The 950 t heavy and over 90 m long bridge section was moved into position by ship and pulled into end position by steel cables. Thus, the first bridge section of approx. 3500 t across the Danube was achieved. Next week a further bridge section will be erected in Urfahr in the bank area and the preparatory work for the second bypass bridge has also begun with the first deliveries to the pre-assembly site.
Darmstadt/Linz, 28.05.2019.
An extraordinary spectacle was to be observed at the Danube bank in Linz at the motorway bridge A7.
At the end of May, numerous onlookers were able to watch the first of three pre-assembled steel bridge sections of the new bypass bridges swim from the pre-assembly site to the Linz side of the river bank under the expert guidance of the Donges assembly team, turn it there, stack it up and then move it to its final position on the river piers. The component has a total length of 74 m and a tonnage of over 1,000 t. Two pontoons, a push boat and a special climbing system are used to float in.
Work on the other two pre-assembled steel components is currently being continued at the pre-assembly site in order to move them into the final position in the same manner in the coming weeks.
On June 27th, 2019 the last component for the supply mast of Ariane 6 was lifted in by our assembly team in Kourou.
The mast has now reached its final height of 60 m and only needs to be completely welded in the next few days.
On March 28, eight students spent a day at Donges SteelTec as part of the nationwide Girls’ and Boys’ Day and gained their first insights into working life.
The young people were first allowed to construct their initials on the computer in our technical office and then later spray the letters burnt out of steel sheets with color according to their own taste. They also got to know the various departments in administration, assembly and our bridge and building construction divisions. For the young people, the day ended with a stay in our production department, where they were able to experience first-hand the production and processing of large steel structures for bridge and building construction projects.
“For many years, we have enjoyed using this day to give interested young people an understanding of the many career opportunities offered by our steel construction company,” commented Joachim Abt, Training Manager at Donges SteelTec.
The first movement of the 2nd construction phase was successfully completed.
The shots 1 – 5 with a total length of 130 m were moved into the valley.
Immediately after the movement, the foundations were rebuilt, since in the following week the shots 6 – 10 will already be delivered and laid down.
After completion of the steel structure, the construction was stacked up by a specialist company and set down on temporary abutments.
In this state, the bridge now waits for the roadway slab to be concreted before it is moved into its end position with the aid of SPMTs.
