Ultrasound procedure
With the aid of an ultrasound procedure, sheet plates are tested in a predetermined matrix in terms of imperfections, inclusions and inhomogeneities.
Through special technical recommendations, we achieve significant added value for customers in both steel bridge and steel building construction. Our structural engineers and designers are delighted to already begin assisting building developers and architects in conceptual and structural planning.
Close collaboration between the two departments, structural engineering and design, enables design details to be considered already at the beginning of the project when decisions are being made concerning the support structure and profile selection. This allows us to apply a holistic and optimized approach in designing and planning engineering structures for our customers.
Head of Engineering Office
In the area of roof and wall construction and facade planning, the tasks of the design office include the preparation of installation plans as well as the development of related detailed solutions.
On the basis of the structural engineering calculation, our engineers produce workshop drawings, assembly blueprints and facade plans that form the basis for the fabrication of the components.
Our 2- and 3-dimensional CAD systems deliver the data for managing the production and generating the documents for our customers and for building documentation.
It takes several groups of designers to turn engineering draft concepts into detailed planning reality. The design of buildings is a very sophisticated task. It requires extensive engineering knowledge and high attention to detail, as this in-depth planning later determines the implementation costs in fabrication and assembly.
In addition to workshop planning for building construction projects, planning for bridge construction contracts is also one of the primary tasks of our engineering office. Not only workshop blueprints but also all the required overlays and geometric plans are produced here.
Head of Fabrication
The core element of our company is made up of large fabrication halls in Darmstadt with crane systems enabling production of components with unit weights of up to 160 t.
All components go through the manufacturing process according to specified criteria. Upon completion, they are checked and approved for compliance with the requirements and the underlying regulations after completion and before shipment to the construction site.
Head of Assembly
From steel building construction, through power plant construction, right down to major bridges in road, rail and waterway bridge construction, our assembly specialists plan and implement the construction of the buildings on site.
We have many years of experience in the design, planning and implementation of technical on-site installation of our entire product portfolio.
Qualified construction workflow planning, with attention to all the different trade contractors on the building site, is the key to successful execution of construction work, construction site management and production of the overall building project. All processes must be precisely calculated in advance by our assembly team and scheduled in a timely manner.
Here, we harness streamlined in-house communication channels between the project departments, the engineering office, fabrication, quality assurance and assembly, in order to ensure you optimal performance with respect to strict adherence to deadlines, flexibility and quality, all in a cooperative spirit of partnership.
Donges SteelTec is SCC-certified and has approval for the production of steel structures according to DIN EN 1090 to EXC4 and the manufacturer-related product qualification of Deutsche Bahn (DBS 918005).
The quality management system of our company was first introduced in 1996 and certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001. In the years that followed, the process chains were continuously reviewed and optimized. The QM system in place today fully meets all requirements and, through quality management and quality planning, contributes to our ability to offer our customers technically flawless performance within the promised deadlines.
In addition to validating contracts and auditing technical documents, quality assurance carries out important quality audits and quality controls in production and during installation. After all, these audits validate and document that the fabricated building products conform to the underlying technical regulations.
Ultimately, our company’s quality assurance department issues the CE mark for our building products, based on these audits.
Project-specific quality plans already ensure in the quotation phase and throughout the entire project that all necessary procedures and processes are planned in advance and can proceed under controlled conditions. In this, responsibilities for the individual processes are clearly defined.

A certified employee uses a yoke magnet to perform magnetic particle testing on welds in order to detect any surface cracks.
The key tasks of quality management in steel construction companies involve testing and continuous improvement of welding processes. For this purpose, work samples and test pieces are welded for welding procedure qualifications and all welding parameters and welding results are precisely recorded and documented in welding instructions.
Welders in areas under construction supervision are subject to strict requirements. Among other criteria, it must be regularly documented that a welding process is reliably controlled. The test piece is broken and assessed on the basis of the fracture pattern. A welder’s test certificate is only issued once the test has been passed.
The requirements arising from regulations and customer specifications are summarized in test plans for each component. These ultimately also serve to document that the design is in compliance with all requirements.
Certified employees of the QM department are responsible for the inspection of welds. Ultrasonic probes are used to check welds for prohibited irregularities.
Optical surveying equipment and laser trackers facilitate quality assurance when validating component geometry. Particularly when it comes to large-sized components in bridge and power plant construction with high tolerance requirements, measuring with a measuring tape reaches its limits.
During the visual weld inspection, irregularities are detected and marked for subsequent reworking.
