Donges Group breaks EUR 230 million turnover mark with third add-on acquisition

Donges SteelTec

Press Release

Darmstadt (Germany), March 7, 2019 – The Donges Group, specializing in steel construction and high-quality roof and façade solutions, is expanding in the flat roof systems sector. Donges SteelTec has signed a purchase agreement for the acquisition of FDT FlachdachTechnologie GmbH & Co. KG, based in Mannheim. The transaction marks the third strategic acquisition for the Darmstadt-based Donges Group and is expected to close until the end of March. This is already Donges SteelTec’s second acquisition in the current fiscal year.

FDT is a company with a long tradition, almost 150 years of history and locations in Mannheim and Hemsbach. With the well-known products “Rhepanol” and “Rhenofol”, the company is an established supplier in the German market for flat roof systems and excellently complements the product portfolio of the Donges Group. The company will be sold as part of a succession plan. The previous managing partner, Joachim Gussner, will be on hand to advise the company on any future requirements. FDT generated sales of around EUR 54 million in the past financial year and employs over 200 people.

“With FDT, we have already made the third add-on acquisition for the buy-and-build strategy of our portfolio company Donges Group. We are pleased to be able to acquire a company with a long tradition in the field of roof systems, whose products ideally expand the Donges Group’s product range. In addition, we expect mutual synergies in sales and processing. This strategic acquisition optimally supports the chosen path of the Donges Group to establish itself as a leading European market player in the field of steel construction, roof and façade systems”, says Johannes Laumann, Managing director of Donges SteelTec.

The Donges Group has been part of the Mutares Group since November 2017. Following the rapid and successful completion of the turnaround program, Donges is now concentrating on further increasing profitability and optimizing its key business areas. The acquisition of FDT, following Kalzip and Normek, is already the third add-on acquisition of the Donges Group. The transaction is part of the sustainable repositioning of the portfolio company as a specialist provider of steel bridge construction, steel building construction and roof and facade solutions in the European market. Following the successful completion of the acquisition, the Donges Group expects annual sales of around EUR 230 million and employs around 800 people in 12 countries
